Change Your Thinking and Start Thinking Big

In many ways, big thinking is all about changing the way that you currently think. Often, you need to look deep inside yourself in order to see deeply entrenched patterns of behavior that you may not have previously been aware of. This, while difficult, is a necessary process. You see, we often operate on automatic pilot. Our brains are programmed this way on order to save on caloric energy. Have you ever driven home and realized once you’ve arrived that you have absolutely no memory of the drive itself? That’s your brain on automatic pilot. When we are in this mental mode, our brains rely on old behaviors, ones that have been laid down over long periods of time, to keep us moving and reacting appropriately.

Unfortunately, some of these patterns of behavior are not always optimal. If you have a tendency to be negative, then it is virtually guaranteed that some of your patterns of behavior exhibit these tendencies, as well. When you go into autopilot mode this negativity is manifested in a knee-jerk reflexive action because the pattern of behavior is so ingrained. So, while the pattern is saving the caloric energy that is required of creative and reflective thought, it may also be causing you to experience negative outcomes over and over again without you even consciously realizing what it is that you are doing.

The answer to this situation is to assess all of your behaviors and reactions and identify the ones that are the most problematic. Are there patterns to your current way of approaching the world that you can see? Are any of these patterns mostly negative or producing negative outcomes? Are you able to see connections and patterns that you weren’t even aware of?

The key to successfully changing the way that you think is to root out these “automatic” ingrained behaviors. Sometimes, these behaviors can be so deeply ingrained that you may simply be incapable of recognizing them. If you look at your behavior and find nothing wrong, yet you still seem to be unable to reach your goals, this may be what’s going on. In this case, you might need to have your behavior assessed by a third party. A second set of eyes, especially when they aren’t yours, may be able to point out some troublesome areas. Pick someone you trust, someone who’s close to you and knows you well, and ask them about your potentially negative behaviors. You might be surprised to find out what someone else sees.

What Is Big Thinking?

When it comes to big thinking, it is important that you clearly understand exactly what big thinking is and what it entails. If you think about it, you can’t successfully put any process into place if you don’t understand that process first. So let’s take a look at what thinking big involves.

As you can tell from the name, thinking big is a mental process. Thinking big is about recognizing that you can accomplish whatever you want, no matter how big the dream, if you believe in yourself and are willing to put in the work that will allow you to make that dream a reality. Yet, despite being a mental process, thinking big isn’t restricted to only to thought. It is also about taking action on your positive thoughts and conquering you fears and inhibitions so that you get successfully to your goal.

A lot of people don’t succeed at the process of thinking big for the same reason. They simply won’t change the way that they think. You see changing the way that you think is one of the most important changes that you can make. However, change is frightening to most people. It is this fear that condemns these people to continue thinking small and, therefore, acting small. Why is this so? For one very simple reason – our thoughts have a direct effect on how we act. On the other hand, how we act also has a direct effect on how we think. Thought and action are tied together. They are a two-way street. Behavioral traffic freely goes both ways – from thought to action and from action to thought. Each one changes the other and both can move you forward or hold you back, depending on your state of mind.

So, it is only when you have a good handle on how thought and action interact can you begin to purposefully control your own big thoughts. This is because big thinking must be a way of life. There is no room for half measures or back sliding behavior. You must be committed to eliminating all negative thoughts and actions from your life. You must be committed to believing in yourself and believing in your dreams as well. There is no other way. Any other path leads back to small thoughts, small actions and a small and narrow world view. So, it’s either go big or go small when it comes to the process of thinking big.

When it comes to coaching people, there are a lot of good qualities that many coaches exhibit. In fact, every coach out there has some good qualities that you could list about them, but if you talk to enough coaches and you get to know the people at the top of the industry, you will notice a pattern starting to emerge. You will see that the most successful coaches actually share some of the same attributes. Here are five qualities that the greatest coaches have. See if you can develop these same attributes so that you’ll be in that elite club of successful coaches who are making a difference with their practice.

 

Self-Awareness: Self-awareness is a big one. You want to know yourself intimately because if you are still struggling with finding out who you are, you are going to have a major problem coaching other people.

Great Communication: The best coaches have great communication. They say the right things at the right times, and even more importantly, they listen. Listening is a skill that you want to develop and you want to understand and empathize with the people who you’re listening to so that you can communicate not only what you want to say, but also exactly what they need.

Perceptiveness: Great coaches are perceptive. They notice things. Coaches can tell when someone is not as motivated as they used to be, or when someone is having a bad day. This perceptiveness comes in handy when getting to the root of a client’s problem, and digging down into the beliefs and thoughts that drive a specific behavior.

Organized and Professional:  Great coaches are not only professional, dressing the part, and always having the right attitude, they are also very organized. Even if you aren’t naturally an organized person, you should take a class or just learn to do better because organization is vital to running a good coaching business. You’ll be collecting information about several different clients and helping them each with a different goal, and unless you are organized you are going to get confused and look unprofessional.

Flexible:  The best coaches are also very flexible. They can easily bounce back when someone throws them a curve ball. If a particular style of coaching or method isn’t working with a certain client, they are happy to change things up and allow them to learn from a completely different place, even if it isn’t one that they are most comfortable with.

Definition of Life Coach and Life Coaching

You may already have some personal ideas of what a life coach is and what he or she does. Some information of this may be true and some may be not. To remove any misconceptions of the job of being a life coach, it would be good to learn what a life coach and what life coaching really is all about.

Life coaching is rooted in the methods of executive coaching which were derived from techniques that were developed in leadership training and management consulting. It also forged its principles from different disciplines like psychology, sociology, mentoring, career development and positive adult development. Because of these though, it has been a misconception that life coaching is a kind of therapy but is actually not.

They may also modify existing methods depending on the client to make the coaching more effective. Again, life coaches should not be considered as psychologists or therapists.

Communication skills is not only about talking and conveying your ideas. It is also important for a life coach to know how to listen. In this line of job, listening is a skill that is critically important for its success.

The willingness to help and communication skills are definitely crucial to posses but they will not be enough. As have been stated in the definition, life coaches make use of different methods to help their clients. Of course these methods will not just occur to anyone.

As an aspiring life coach, you need to undergo different training programs as well as related seminars. This will provide you with the skills on how to help your future clients. With the help of training, you will be armed with the tools of the trade.

Stop Going Around The Same Mountain

MountainDo you find yourself in the same cycle each week – day in and day out? Are you feeling frustrated about not being in a certain place in your life, ministry, business or career yet? If so, then it may be time for you to “stop going around the same mountain” expecting a different result. It may be time for you to break camp to possess what God has shown you.

One of my favorite scriptures is Deuteronomy 1:6-8 (NIV) which reads, “(6)The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. (7) Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. (8) See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” I want to share with you 3 key principles from this passage of scripture to help you to “Stop Going Around The Same Mountain.”

1.  You have stayed at this mountain long enough.         

  • Sometimes, you can get stuck in a place that you become use to, comfortable in or a place that you are afraid to leave.
  • God will speak to you when you have stayed in a place too long. He will let you know when it is time to leave.
  • Long enough is when you have “over stayed” your assigned time.

2.  It’s time to break camp. 

  • It’s time for you to show some signs of turning away from the mountain. It’s time to develop a plan of action to stop what you are doing to advance to the place you want to be.
  • To “advance” means to move forward in position. It’s an indication that it is  time to make something happen to further your progress. It’s time to go to higher heights – to the hills.
  • It’s time to get moving in possessing the land.

3.  Go in a take possession of the land.  

  • CONFIDENCE –  you need to have an assurance that what God said is for you is for you. (Philippians 1:6 and Hebrews 10:35)
  • COURAGE –  you need a supernatural fearlessness and bravery to possess what’s yours. (Deuteronomy 31:6-8; Joshua 1:6-9; I Corinthians 16:13)
  • FAITH TO BELIEVE – Faith will never be magic, but a systematic spiritual process that brings to pass the will of God for your personal life. It’s the key to everything!

If you are tired of repeating the same cycles not going any further in life, you will have to stop going around the same mountain, break camp and possess what’s yours.
