How To Develop A Motivated Mindset

From time to time, each of us will find ourselves in a rut of boredom and disinterest. We seem to lose our zest for life and feel tired, irritable and unmotivated. We want to hide under the covers rather than face the day. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed by work, or sad about the pain and suffering in the world, or just bored with the routine of your daily life.  

You are not alone. We all go through periods like this at some point. The good news is that we can do something about it. Here are some tips to help break out of the rut and feel excited about life again:  

1) Take a “Time Out” – Prolonged stress can wear us down and zap any enthusiasm we once had. Before doing anything else, take a few minutes to breathe and just BE. Empty your mind of all stress and worry. This takes practice, but don’t give up! As thoughts come into your mind, gently push them back out and continue to keep your mind empty and calm. Take slow, deep breaths and let all of your muscles relax. Sit quietly and recharge your batteries. Try to do this daily, or even twice daily (morning and night). We need quiet time as much as we need anything else in life. Give yourself the gift of inner peace 

2) Get Inspired – Read something motivational, inspirational or uplifting. Look at some beautiful nature photos, or read something humorous. Consciously move your thoughts to a more positive place. Focusing on nothing but work and our daily tasks in life can leave us feeling pretty uninspired. It’s easy to turn it around if we want to. We just have to seek out things that will lift our spirits and our moods. Make it a point to laugh, be happy, joyful and lighthearted each day. Don’t wait for inspiration to come knocking on your door, go out and find it, or create it. Conjure up some funny or touching memories. Write them in a journal so you can go back and read them when you’re feeling down.  

3) Get Excited – Think about the things you have planned for the day, and rekindle the enthusiasm you once felt for them. When we first begin a new project, or start a new job, we are excited about the possibilities and eager to get moving! Over time, we can lose that enthusiasm for a variety of reasons. Travel back in time for a Happymoment, and think about what got you so excited at the beginning. What made your heart beat a little faster? Recapture that feeling and hang onto it! Even if your tasks aren’t anything to be really excited about, at least think of some positive benefits to doing them. For example, list the ways they will benefit your children, your spouse, yourself, your job or your home. Identify the payoff, and focus on that. Even mundane tasks have some benefits. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of switching our mindset to see the positive side 

4) Baby Steps – Sometimes the hardest part is actually getting started. A project seems so monstrous that we cringe at the thought of all that time and energy we’ll have to expend. Instead of overwhelming yourself, start small. Set a timer for 15 minutes and just start working on it. Allow yourself to stop after 15 minutes if you really want to. But most often, once we actually start working on something, we won’t want to stop. Don’t focus on the big picture, look at the smaller details and take them on one at a time. Any large task seems manageable once we break it down into smaller steps.  

5) Care of the Body – Sometimes our feelings of fatigue are caused by physical deficiencies, not mental. Be sure you are getting enough rest, eating food that nourishes your body, drinking enough water, getting enough exercise, etc. Especially when we’re very busy, we tend to grab the quickest, easiest meals, which aren’t always the best choice for our bodies. Eating a lot of highly processed foods and sugar is like putting watered-down gasoline into our cars. In order for our cars to run smoothly, we need to maintain them properly, and so it is with our bodies also. Remember, the body is the vehicle for the mind and soul!   

Finally, remember to reward yourself from time to time, and be gentle with yourself! There will always be things that “need” to be done. But some of us take on way more than we can handle, and our lives turn into a pit of drudgery because of it. Try to eliminate the things that truly don’t bring you joy, or at least minimize the time you spend on them. Do what you can, and let the rest go. Or ask for help. Don’t feel you have to do everything yourself.

 Remember that motivation, just like happiness, is something we CHOOSE. We may need to give ourselves a little push at the beginning, but once we get into the right mindset, it’s simple to stay there if we choose to.

Catalyst for Personal Motivation and Inspiration

Where is the MotivationA catalyst can be something that you experience – such as an event, or it can be words spoken by another person, or a book or a movie that causes you to alter your life in some way.

Some catalysts are simple – such as a man who gets fired because he’s always late. Losing the job can be a catalyst for that man to make sure he gets to his next job on time, or find a job that gives him so much personal satisfaction, he never wants to let his company down.

The event of getting fired, often at an inopportune time, caused him to make a change in how he acts in life. Change is hard. It’s easier to do what you’ve always done because there’s comfort in familiarity.

Leaving your comfort zone thrusts you into new situations and forces you to deal with new ideas and new ways of handling various aspects of life. It’s scary and no one wants to go through it voluntarily.

If you were to take a survey of random strangers and ask them, “Are you happy with your life?” you would get more no answers than you would yes ones. There are a lot of people who aren’t happy with their lives.

They don’t like their personal life or their professional life – and they don’t like how they act sometimes. Yet day in and day out, they don’t do anything to change any of that.

Some people don’t know how to change it. They don’t understand how they can find a catalyst to motivate and inspire themselves toward the kind of life they want.

Sometimes a catalyst enters your life, and you’re too focused on the ordinary, that you miss it completely. You may have to train yourself to watch for opportunities if you want to raise yourself to a higher level of success and happiness.

Live on Purpose

Do you feel like you’re stuck in a rut now that you are seven months into another year? Are you having the same struggles in your love life, career, friendships, or passion?

It’s time to take action to fix the problem. You’ll first want to identify the areas of your life that feel “off.”

Take some time to reflect on what’s bothering you and why. Once you know what’s going on, it’s easier to find a solution.

Having a Goal

It’s important to have goals in all aspects of your life because it focuses your energy onto the big picture. When you have a purpose for your actions, you’ll begin to see those little steps being important building blocks for your end goal. Your life won’t seem so stale when you have your end goal in mind at all times.

Here are some tips for setting goals:

  • Make your goals attainable. If you have lofty goals, break them up into smaller pieces.
  • Write your goals down on paper and keep them handy.
  • Always state your goals in a positive fashion (i.e. “I will be free of unhealthy relationships or bad business/ministry deals…” instead of: “I will stop hanging with the wrong people or I will stop making bad decisions…”)
  • Be as detailed as you can when planning out your goals step by step.
  • Fight the urge to procrastinate.

Take Action

Once you’ve discovered the areas of your life that need changing, and you have goals in mind, it’s time to take action. When things have hit a point of stagnation there is no other choice you have but to take swift action.

Remember that you can think, plan, or worry all day long but it’ll do nothing positive for your life if you don’t act.

Here are some strategies to keep in mind as you put your goals into action:

  1. Don’t Hold Yourself Back. If you already know what’s holding you back, it’s time to fix the problem so you can take action. Is fear holding you back? If so, it’d be in your best interest to master your fears. A life full of stagnation because of fear will do more harm than good.
  2. Be Consistent. Many people will crack down on changing their life and then drift back into a world of stagnation. Once you’ve started to take action, make sure it’s consistent action. This is the only way you’ll reach your life goals.
  3. Right Now. You already have your plan in place and it’s broken up into small pieces. Ask yourself what you can accomplish right now to put yourself a positive step closer toward your goal. It doesn’t matter if you only have 15 minutes, there is sure to be something you can accomplish in that time period.
  4. Take Time to Unwind. It’s easy to get excited and eager about your new goals and dreams, but ensure you schedule some “me time” as well. You need to be able to get a good night’s sleep and rejuvenate your body and mind. Otherwise, you risk physical and mental exhaustion, which will only bring you back to stagnation!
  5. Take Notes. Be sure to take notes of your observations and tweak your actions along the way. Doing so will help you figure out what’s working for you and what’s not.

Picture Yourself

At the end of the day you should picture yourself having broken the chain of stagnation. Even if you’re not quite there yet, it’s important to remember that it’s possible and likely when you’re willing to change!

Life is a fascinating journey that provides many twists, turns, and surprises. You can’t always predict which way your life will go. Sometimes, you might want to sit back and survey what’s important to you and what you’ve learned so far.

Reflecting on what you know to be true about life can actually help you live a rewarding existence and keep enjoying the best parts of life.

What are the life lessons you’ve learned so far? Listed below are some commonly identified life lessons. If you haven’t learned these lessons yet, maybe reading about them will cultivate your thoughts about what you have learned. Plus, you’ll expose your mind to these ideas and if you choose, you can incorporate these important concepts into your own life lesson repertoire.

  1. Recognize and cope with your own feelings. Learning this lesson early in life will prevent you from making many mistakes in terms of your choices and relationships. Take time to label what you’re feeling and learn how to express and cope with your emotions positively. Learning this life lesson will enrich your existence.
  2. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Somebody said this phrase a long time ago and it really caught on. Learn to tell the difference between something that really matters to you and something that, in the scheme of things, will not affect your life in any dramatic or real way.
  3. Take care of your health and appearance. Whether you like it or not, the health decisions you make each day have a profound impact on the kind of life you’ll experience in the present and future. And those decisions directly affect your personal appearance.
  4. Respect others. You don’t have to like all the people you meet and you certainly don’t have to make friends with them. But if you respect everyone, your own life will likely be easier and more enjoyable. Although you might not feel respected by someone, you can’t go wrong in respecting them anyway.
  5. Learn to delay your own gratification. Whether it’s putting your opinions out there, imbibing in alcohol, wanting to buy yourself the latest expensive toy, or just insisting on getting your own way about something, don’t expect or demand that your needs be met immediately,
  6. Keep your mind open and your mouth closed. When you’re open to accepting new people, places, and things, your possibilities are endless. Rather than disagree or criticize something you don’t understand, try to expand your mind to the new concept and take it all in. Who knows, it might become your next favorite thing.
  7. When it’s all over, only love matters. A lesson that most of us don’t learn until very late in our lives is that the place you worked, the money you made, and the “toys” you collected don’t add up to much as you near life’s end. What does matter is that you’ve loved and been loved. Everything else falls away.

Your life lessons might look quite different from this list. The most important point is that you identify the deepest, most meaningful lessons you’ve learned about life. When you recognize what really matters to you, you’ll live each day consciously and full of purpose.

Live The Life You Have Always Wanted

Are you living an authentic life? If you find yourself yearning for things to change, wishing that you could be somebody else, or wanting to live a totally different lifestyle, maybe it’s time you revealed your true self to the world.

 If you believe you only get one life and this is it, you likely realize how important it is to live the life you desire. You can best accomplish this by discovering the real “you” inside and catering to what’s most important to you.

So how do you start the process of unraveling the person you’ve become to reveal who you really are?

Your answers to these questions will help you uncover your true self:

1Who are you really? Would you love to dive into that intellectual part of you that you’ve ignored over the past years? Maybe you want to write the great American novel or see the world. What do your innermost feelings and thoughts tell you about who you really are?

    • Think about the times when you’ve been happiest. These are great clues to learning who you really are. What made you so happy? Where were you? Who were you with?

2Are you truly happy now? When you look closely, do you feel joy about your life? Or do you feel like all you’re doing is trying to keep up with your neighbors, friends, or family rather than doing what you really want?

3What do you want to be remembered for? Cultivate your thoughts about what you want to be doing with your life right now. By fulfilling your hopes and dreams, you’ll be remembered as the person you want to be.

4.  What are your top three dreams? Answer this question quickly, without thinking too hard. The first answers that come to mind are probably correct. Have you achieved these dreams yet? If not, are you working toward them at least a little bit each day?

5.  What do you plan to do with your life? Contemplate this question to help you discover what’s really important to you. Let yourself get excited and develop a joyful anticipation about what you’ll be doing next in your life.

  • You’ve heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” However, the builders of Rome did have to make progress every day. Re-focusing on what you truly want and setting up your daily life to stay on task will move you closer to your goals and reveal more about yourself.
  • Think about what you must do today and tomorrow to move toward fulfilling your hopes and desires. When you really want something, knowing that you’re coming closer to it each day will, in itself, bring you increased happiness and excitement for your future.

Answering these questions to unearth your true feelings at least once a year is a good idea. Doing so will help you stay on track in terms of having the life that you truly want.

Revealing the real you is an exciting journey that will fill you with great joy and satisfaction. And who doesn’t want more of that?

Free Yourself – You’re Worth It!

Do you sometimes feel like you are a work in progress?  Do you feel the drive to keep improving yourself and then find yourself in a spiral of despair because you just never feel like you measure up? For many people, this is their reality. Research has shown that this may be one of the most common causes of weight gain and emotional eating disorders.

All of us need to find freedom from the cycle that we are imperfect .While we all have room to grow and develop; the most freeing of all realities about ourselves that we need to absorb and accept is that we are a unique and beautiful human being. There is no one quite like us on this earth and there never will be. Once we accept this for ourselves, we can then look for ways to make the good in us better. Without this perspective, we will constantly strive to find some self-acceptance and won’t move much beyond this point in our life.

An old African proverb reminds us that if we don’t have any enemies inside us, then no external enemies can cause us harm or hurt. Have you noticed when things are going well on the inside and you are feeling secure and happy with life, things that go wrong in your life don’t seem to be so bad, but when you are feeling bad about your self, things are so different. The world seems to take on a much darker feeling and it’s more difficult to cope when things are not going right?

Learning to love yourself and to appreciate the uniqueness you are is often the first stage of learning how to control your weight, feel confident in studying or changing careers, or learning a new hobby. Many of the things we procrastinate over that are for our own benefit and enrichment are often the things we don’t do, because perhaps deep inside we don’t think we are good enough or worthy enough to do these things for ourselves.

Challenge those thoughts and starting tomorrow – Choose one thing you want to do for you. – Because guess what, you are worth it! Most people have to battle the self-talk and rarely say anything nice about themselves. Try looking in the mirror when you wake up and tell your reflection what you would tell your best friend… You are worth it!

Living A Happy Life

Everyone strives to be happy but the mistake that most people make is they think that happiness is some kind of finishing line in a race. Once you crossed that line, you will live happily ever after. That is not true. Happiness is a choice! You can choose to make your life happy. So here are a few ways you can do just that.

1.  Let go of past memories.

Everyone has both sad and happy moments. So forget about your painful memories. What’s in the past stays in the past. Instead focus on your good memories and move on.

 2.  Be optimistic.

Always try looking on the bright side of things. Look for the silver lining behind each dark cloud. For example, if you had an unfortunate accident and your car is badly dented, but the bright side is that nobody got hurt and that dent in your car can be repaired. There is always a bright side to look on so be optimistic!

3.  Be close to your family.

Try and maintain a close relationship with your family and friends. Our relationships with them have a greater impact on our happiness than anything else. Human beings are made to be social creatures. So appreciate the existing relationships that you have.

 4.  Try finding a job that gives you happiness.

If you are feeling stressed out in your current job and not getting the job satisfaction that you want, perhaps it’s time for a career change. Job satisfaction plays an important part in your happiness. So give your job a chance. Try having a positive attitude in your job. If that doesn’t work, it may be time for a change of jobs.

5.  Make friends.

You need to make friends with people who share a common interest. Find something that you are deeply passionate about. It could be a hobby or an organization you can volunteer in. There you could meet people who the same interest and passion as you.

6.  Exercise.

Exercising releases endorphins. So, not only you are taking care of your body but you will automatically start to feel good about yourself.

7.  Change your thinking.

You have to start living life to the fullest. Don’t delay your life a second longer. Try something new everyday or pick up a new skill!

8.  Don’t let the small stuff bug you.

Remember all the small petty stuff that used to bother you? Forget all about it and focus on the bigger picture. Life is too short to be worry about trivial stuff.

9.  Live your life for yourself.

Stop trying to live your life up to other people’s expectations. You are your own person. So start living it for yourself!

10.  Lastly, remember to love with all your heart.

You have all these love to give so give your love to something and start feeling happy today!
