How To Regain Personal Momentum

TheMomentumPrinciple_Design5_04

Have you lost the enthusiasm and sense of purpose in your personal life? Some signs might be that you’re tired all the time, out of shape, bored, lack self-confidence and feel stuck in a rut. You’ve lost your momentum.

When you lose your personal momentum you lose the desire to pull yourself up and get going again. It’s like you’re stuck in quicksand and it keeps pulling you down. Unlike quicksand, you have to start moving again to gain the momentum you lost and get back into the life you want. Here are some tips to get back in the momentum game:

  • Socialize – Gain energy from positive people in your life. Take advantage of friends and family members you feel great being around.
  • Set ONE priority – It’s easy to become overwhelmed by things you must do. If you set one priority for an activity, you’ll be more apt to finish it.
  • Make time – Set a time in concrete to begin the activity. Do it no matter how you feel at the moment.
  • Make space for the activity – Set yourself up for success by making room for the work you’re about to do. That may mean clearing off your desk or setting your alarm clock for an earlier wake-up time.
  • Complete the project – Don’t stop or look back or forward until you completely finish the project at hand.
  • Use a timer – Until that timer goes off, be committed to work on the activity or project you set as a priority. No checking emails or answering the phone until it’s completed or the timer rings.
  • Set small increments of time – Especially at first – you don’t want to overwhelm yourself, so set small amounts of time to devote to your project that will be easy to do.
  • Don’t let anything stand in your way – Take some type of action toward your goal even if you don’t feel like it or something monumental happens to ruin your day. Do something.
  • Don’t skip your work times –Whether it’s exercising or getting busy on a novel, meet the times you set for work like it’s a life or death appointment.

“Stuff” is bound to happen to push you off track. You or a family member could catch the flu and be inundated with doctors’ appointments and bed rest. Your car might break down or your job might require that you work evenings.

The main thing about regaining personal momentum is not to give up. You’ve got to drag yourself back up and begin or restart again and never look back. It’s a skill that all those who have accomplished great things has learned –and it’s a skill you must practice to reach your goals and fulfill your dreams.
