Striving For Excellence In Ministry D11 – Discover Your Passion: What Are Your Secret Talents?

Ignite Your Passion

What talents are hiding within you?

Many people have grown up believing they didn’t have anything special or unique to add to the world. Perhaps they came from mediocre surroundings or had no encouragement for their gifts so they went unrecognized. Or maybe they repressed their talents because they felt ashamed. Whatever the reason, it was all too easy to believe their talents and passions were not worth pursuing.

Everyone Has Talent

A great number of people are wandering around with the belief that they aren’t all that interesting when it comes to their spiritual and natural gifts. But we all have been gifted by God with more talent than we think we have.

Be Realistic

We shouldn’t delude ourselves and believe we can do all things. We need to be realistic about what we can accomplish but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try new things or take classes to learn something new. However, we can do “all things” that we have been spiritually empowered to do.

* If you’ve always wanted to be a Broadway actor, audition for a local community theater group. Many people can fulfill their passion on a smaller, local level.

* You might decorate beautiful children’s birthday cakes, but should you attempt to decorate your niece’s wedding cake? Be realistic about your skills and how much time it will take but feel free to take some extra classes or find a mentor in the field who can help you.

Discovering Your True Passion

Many people go through life with interests that are never truly nurture and enjoy because they are too concerned about what others think. Of course, that’s no way to live!

Finding your passion is an important part of self-discovery. You will be a happier, more balanced individual when you find and develop your passions. Your whole life will change before your eyes!

Finding Your Passion

You may think that finding your passion is easier said than done, and it is for many people. However, you can find your passion in two easy steps:

  1. Set your mind to finding your passion. Once you focus on your pursuit of passion, your mind will be attuned to anything that will contribute to the fulfillment of it.

2.  Use an effective mind tool. There is a well-known tool you can use to help you along the way if you are afraid to branch out and follow your dreams. You can also use this tool to keep going down the right path to find what you are interested in. What is this handy tool? It’s embracing your passion through faith confessions and faith affirmations!

* Faith confessions and affirmations can help you push through your self-doubts and help lead you to a more passionate life based on the Word of God and an authentic trust in God.

* A faith confession is a statement of agreement with God’s Word independent of natural circumstances, situations and conditions.

Passion is power! You will never have significant success in ministry or with anything until it becomes a godly obsession with you. A godly obsession is when something consumes your thoughts and time according the Word of God and His will for your life.

Scriptures to Encourage Your Passion

Psalm 42:1 – “As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.”

Ecclesiastes 9:10(a) – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might;”

Matthews 7:7-8 -““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

This is quite interesting. I did go to a four-part workshop at church this summer on finding your own spiritual gifts. The entire group learned a lot about their own and each other’s gifts and about ways to use our gifts to make our church better and more welcoming. It was a great experience and I am glad that you are encouraging others to make the journey. I also like that you are telling people to be realistic about their gifts and to start small, where they are more likely to have success and to be, themselves, a gift to others.

I wrote a lengthy post before I realized that I would have to log in. What I said was that this is quite good. This summer, I participated in a find your own spiritual gifts workshop at church that helped me discover my own gifts. I really learned a lot from that and am grateful to have had that opportunity. I would encourage everyone to go through such a process. Thank you for writing about it in your blog.
